Master Bath, Children’s Bath

We were contacted by a referral from our Knob Hill Re-Creation client that was looking for assistance in updating their second-floor bathrooms: master bath and childrenā€™s. The home was constructed in 1989 and was in serious need of updating.

From our initial design effort, we identified several opportunities to enhance function. Itā€™s not just about aesthetics. The master bath had several notable deficiencies that impacted satisfaction and enjoyment. There was a large whirlpool tub in front of windows to the rear yard making it very difficult to access the windows, operate blinds, or just look out. There was only one sink in the bathroom proper (another was in the bedroom), and the shower was minimally sized. The childrenā€™s bathroom was oversized, inefficient, and did not compliment the needs of 2 teens of different genders.

At the end of our Phase 1 design effort, we presented 3 options for a reconfigured master bath and 3 options for a reconfigured childrenā€™s bath. We were pleased to see our client select our favorite options. Both bathrooms had a skylight with lightwells which we were able to incorporate into the new design and preserve the daylighting they provided.

The new master bath, constructed within the same footprint of the existing bathroom, included more storage space, 2 vanities, shower for 2 with steam, a private toilet room, a freestanding soaking tub, and heated porcelain tile floor. Windows are now accessible for daylight and fresh air!

One of our options for the childrenā€™s bathroom was to create 2 dedicated bathrooms. While this configuration would solve the teen sharing issue our client selected, and we agreed, the best option was to reconfigure the bath into 2 rooms. One accessible from the other: a bathing/toilet room accessible from a washroom with his and her vanities. Again, all within the same footprint as the existing bath.

This is another project that demonstrates the added value from the experience and creativity of seasoned design and construction professionals. Remodeling is a considerable expense, we understand that, and work hard to bring the most return to our clientā€™s investment. Ā Albers Design constructed this project using our proprietary CMA Advantageā„¢ construction deliver method.
