This 1940ās rambler had a tiny, yet hard-working galley kitchen with soffits. As the hub of the house, it also served as an office with minimal storage space.
The homeowners wanted a modern, open-concept esthetic that would allow them to use their dining room and kitchen as one unified space to entertain friends and family.
We opened the walls to the seldom-used dining room and integrated the island, dining room table and kitchen cabinets to create a flow between the two rooms. We added a separate area for household tasks like paying bills and scheduling activities, along with a small table for snacks and lunch. Glass cabinet doors with aluminum frames, drum shades on light fixtures and mahogany-stained cabinetry all add to this updated, modern interior.
